Car Insurance Comparison: Know What To Compare
Written by Kevin Rose
The best way to find the lowest prices on car insurance is by looking at several policy types, amounts and companies.  Doing a car insurance comparison is not as complicated as it sounds, though, since many people can get all the information they need right online, through the professional company's websites.  A bit of comparison shopping may just result in you finding the cheapest insurance you have ever had. Look at all of your options, consider what the insurance means to you and don't be afraid to ask for discounts.

Types of Policies

One of the best ways to find a low price on car insurance is to make sure you have the best policy for you. Policies range widely in terms of what they cover. If you have a car loan, you will need to find a policy giving full coverage. This way, if the car is destroyed in an accident, the lender of the car loan still has the value of the vehicle backed up and available to cover the debt. On the other hand, if you have a car insurance policy for a car that has little to no value, you may not need full coverage. If the car was wrecked, you would not need a payout on it. Rather, you just need enough car insurance to cover the costs of injuries. Liability insurance, as it is called, is much more affordable, but still provides you with only a partial payout.

Look for Amounts of Coverage

Another way to compare the costs of car insurance is to look to the amounts of insurance you have and need.  The amount of coverage must fall within the legal limits. Each state puts a mandate on the amount of insurance required, often based on the cost of accidents within the state. From here, though, you control how much of a payout you need. Lowering the amount of coverage can help you to cut the costs considerably as long as you can afford this type of risk.

Comparing Companies

Perhaps the most important way to save money is to compare the prices of insurance companies. Each company has the right to give you a rate that fits their needs. Most companies are willing to offer you a lower rate if you are a new customer since they want to lure you away from other companies.  Additionally, you may also may be able to save money on the discounts that many insurance companies offer. You will not automatically get these insurance discounts, though. Ask for them, as this is the only way you'll save money.

There is much to be said about saving money when shopping for car insurance. Ultimately, the only way to save money is to do some homework and to compare what companies are currently charging. Luckily the process is very simple since most insurance companies now offer insurance quotes on their websites. You can save a great deal of money by just getting a few quotes and looking at the price differences.
